Wild Kestrel Hide

Photograph these beautiful British birds of prey at an idyllic farm. An established pair used to feeding from a perch set up for photography — so you have the chance to see both the male and female.

The hide

UK · South Leicestershire

We’re fortunate to have a beautiful pair of Kestrels at the farm, and they regularly visit the feeding perch throughout the day for a snack. These elegant birds of prey are a little more cautious than our Barn Owls and Buzzards, so we use the same specialist one-way glass featured in our highly successful Buzzard hide to keep disturbance to an absolute minimum. Even with this setup, we recommend a lens in the 400–600mm range to capture the best images, depending on your preferred shooting style and composition.

Please be aware that these are wild birds, so the frequency and duration of their visits can be unpredictable. They do, however, visit the set-up regularly and, if undisturbed, will stay for several minutes at a time. We hope you'll capture a few pleasing images of this beautiful species by the end of the session.

You'll be provided with good information upon booking, but this is not an instructional workshop. You may consider booking the Buzzard Hide, which takes place in the morning, and the Barn Owl session in the evening.

Location

15 minutes from Junction 20 of the M1, near Market Harborough, South Leicestershire. Full directions are provided on booking.
